I find a unique quality of juxtaposition in this portrait. The mother's total side profile... It is almost as if two images were superimposed.

Both seem to be independent viewers, unaware of each other, which is, of course, impossible.

This photograph is not posed, but captured spontaneously... neither one aware of me.
