MUSICIANS THROUGH CHICAGO
Jazz & Blues
THE PHOTOGRAPHY
The objective of the photography is to capture a portrait of each performer – expressions and emotions of the artist, an essence of the soul.
All photographs are captured during live performance on stage. None of the artists is posed.
THE PROJECT
Conceived in May of 2003, the project was launched in February of 2006. Its main goal is to photograph Chicago ’s well known jazz / blues musicians & sidemen, playing Chicago clubs and musical halls. Other regional, national and world renowned musicians of these genres will be included, as they pass through and play the city.
Its second goal is to bring to light, with a projected publication of an anthology of these portraits in 2008, the value of artists, the importance of Chicago as an art/musical center, and the significant contributions that Chicago clubs have made and continue to make to public awareness of the rich history and definition of this music.
THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Christoph G. Olesch is a professional photographer and resides in Palatine , IL .
"My gratitude goes to all musicians and clubs for making this project possible, and to the City of Chicago Harold Washington Public Library for displaying it, during its 25th Blues Archive Anniversary."
The show will run from July 1 through December 31, 2006. It is located on the 8th floor. Admission is free and open to the public.
