Introduction Conceived in September of 2004, effective June 1, 2005 , I launched an anthology project called “Artists Through Chicago.” Goals & Objectives The project is to photograph well known artists – regional, national and international – represented by metropolitan Chicago art galleries or institutions. The art type is open and will encompass many mediums from (but not limited to) painting, sculpture, pottery, mixed media, glass and photography. It is my objective to bring to light, through portraiture, the value of artists, the importance of Chicago as an art center, and the significant contributions that Chicago and its gallery owners/directors have made and continue to make to public awareness and definition of art. The Approach Each artist’s portrait / photographs are produced photojournalistic style, not posed. Photographs are captured as the artist naturally interacts and converses with his audience. Approximately 36 or more photographs are taken during an opening exhibition, spontaneously and artistically. My primary approach is to be non-intrusive and natural during the exhibition. The artist, his audience and gallery customers, always remain the focus of the event. If the artist chooses, he/she may request to be photographed with an audience member, at any time. Audience requests to be photographed with the artist will be honored only with the prior knowledge, approval and at request of the artist. The artist’s privacy is respected at all times. The Anthology & Format The number of artists sought is 50; the design of the book will dedicate 4 pages to each artist: 1. 1 st Left Page: A brief 2 to 3 paragraph biography of the artist and his work 2. 1 st Left Page: Exhibition, Date and Gallery are credited 2. 1 st Right Page: A candid, artistic portrait of the artist, approximately 3”x 5” - 4”x 6” 3. Following 2 Left-Right Pages: 3-4 photographs of the exhibition art The anthology will portray artists alphabetically. Index 1 will list the Artists and Opening Exhibitions. Index 2 will list the represented galleries, owners/directors, address, telephone, e-mail address and website URL (additional information may be made available). Production of the anthology will be during 2005 – 2007. Estimated release is scheduled for early 2nd quarter of 2009. Permissions & Releases Artists who allow themselves to be photographed at the exhibition, Model Releases from the artist may be requested; model releases from directors photographed with the artist may also be requested. Galleries and artists who participate in the anthology will receive complimentary photographs of their opening exhibition / event. For quality purposes, final selection, production and release of the photographs, will be at the sole discretion of the photographer. However, I would like to request each gallery play a collaborative part in this selection process. Photographer retains all copyrights. All rights are reserved. Galleries will be granted complimentary 90-Day Usage Rights, for “during and after” exhibition advertising/promotion purposes. The reproduction or selling of photographs, for the purpose of advertising or promotion, may be granted through written permission only. Participation Galleries / Institutions, may contact me, regarding inclusion. If the response to this project significantly exceeds the currently proposed scope, expansion of the project will be considered, or the project may evolve into a Volumes I, II, and etc. series.
