Projects

Introduction

Conceived in May of 2003, effective February 1, 2006 , I have launched an anthology project called “Musicians Through Chicago.”

Goals & Objectives

The project is to photograph well known Musicians and their sidemen – regional, national and international – represented by, visiting and/or playing Chicago Clubs, Theaters, Orchestra Halls, etc. The music genre will encompass Jazz & Blues.

It is my objective to bring to light, through biography and portraiture, the value of artists, the importance of Chicago as an art / musical center, and the significant contributions that Chicago Clubs and owners/managers and institutions have made and continue to make to public awareness and definition of music.

The Approach

Photographs are taken live, photojournalistic style, during performances.

If the artist chooses, he/she may request to be photographed with an audience member, at any time. Audience requests to be photographed with the artist are honored only with prior knowledge, approval and at request of the artist.

The Anthology & Format

The number of artists sought is 50; the design of the book will dedicate 4 pages to each artist and sidemen:

1. 1 st Left Page: A brief 2 to 3 paragraph biography of the musician

2. 1 st Left Page: Performance, Date and Club/Institutions are credited

2. 1 st Right Page: A live action portrait of the artist, approximately 4”x 6” – 5”x 7”

3. Following 2, each Left-Right Page: 4-6 photographs of the artist / sidemen

The anthology will portray artists alphabetically.

Index 1 will list the artists and/or Group.

Index 2 will list and describe the Clubs, Institutions, owners/managers, address, telephone, e-mail address and website URL (additional information may be made available).

Photographic production of the anthology will be during 2006-2007. Estimated release is scheduled for early 3 rd quarter of 2008.

Permissions & Releases

In order to promote and market the project and artists, model releases from the artist / individuals of the group are required.

Clubs / Institutions and artists who participate in the anthology will receive complimentary photographs of the performance/event. For quality purposes, final selection, production and release of the photographs, will be at the sole discretion of the photographer, Christoph. However, I would like to request artists/clubs play a collaborative part in the selection process.

Christoph retains all copyrights. All rights are reserved.

Clubs / Institutions are granted complimentary Usage Rights of certain photographs, for advertising or promotion purposes. The reproduction or selling of photographs, for the purpose of advertising or promotion, will be granted with written permission only.

Participation

Artists and Clubs / Institutions, which do not appear on the list, may contact me, regarding inclusion.

Since the response to this project has significantly exceeded expectations and proposed scope, expansion of the project is being considered.
